Portrait Showcase: Summer at Otter Creek
There are few things so magical as a Blue Ridge Waterfall Summer, don’t you agree? I mean, could we ask for a better place to live, work and play than the beautiful Appalachian Mountains???
As summer comes to a close and the leaves begin to turn, we get to watch our sweet Virginia take on a different kind of beauty as the mountains light up with autumn fire and crisp, inspiring air tickles our senses. Don’t get me wrong, I have a special fondness for fall. But, before we go jumping head first into the leaves, let’s take one more look at our glorious golden summer.
Otter Creek is one of those places that just makes you Feel Good. Tucked off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Big Island, Otter Lake tumbles over a stunning stone dam and winds its way back into a creek again. You can wade ankle deep, turning over rocks on a crawdad hunt, or go all-in for the six-foot-deep swimming hole. Tannin-leached baptismal waters are cool and refreshing. The perfect treat for a hot summer day. Long winding trails take you along side bubbling cascades and the tranquil lake. You can cast a line from the dock or maybe get lucky enough to spot the shiny back of an otter splashing in the lily pads.
Forgive me for waxing poetic here, but how could you not? Doesn’t everything about these boys make you warm and tingly for the honey-sweet summers of your childhood?
We LOVE capturing kids in their natural element. For Eli and Luke, THIS is it.
We had a blast shooting these pictures, and we think they did too!
Otter Creek IS Virginia Summer. We highly recommend checking it out. Of course, if you can’t wait til next year, it’s beautiful all dressed up in it’s fall clothes too. :) We know time is fleeting. As quickly as the leaves fall from the trees this November, summer will be back around in the blink of an eye. If you want to capture your kiddos in their element, splashing in the summer creek, call us now. Don’t delay. We’re ready to book you for summer ‘22.
This is goodbye for now to the summer sunshine and those warm tank-top days. We’ll see you next year for a dip in the creek. <3
